Review of NeoNitro

After inadvertently allowing my Chaeto algae to overgrow and maintaining an extended refugium light schedule, I found myself confronted with the challenge of combating dinoflagellates in my aquarium. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, I promptly conducted tests using my Hannah testers, revealing critically low levels of phosphates and nitrates. Determined to address this imbalance swiftly, I sought a solution at my local fish store and acquired a bottle of NeoNitro.

Following the manufacturer’s recommendations, I initially dosed 5 mL or one capful per 25 gallons for five consecutive days. Despite these efforts, achieving a nitrate reading above 2 ppm proved challenging. Consequently, I escalated the dosage to 10 mL per 25 gallons for three days, effectively raising my nitrate levels to the target of 10 ppm. Upon reaching this desired threshold, I reverted to the recommended dosage and adjusted my refugium light schedule from a 12-hour cycle to a 6-hour night cycle to maintain more stable pH levels throughout the day.

Over the course of three weeks, coupled with diligent scrubbing of frag plugs and rocks, I witnessed a notable reduction in dinoflagellate presence, ultimately restoring equilibrium to my tank. Based on my experience, I wholeheartedly recommend NeoNitro to fellow hobbyists grappling with the challenge of maintaining optimal nitrate levels or combatting dinoflagellate outbreaks resulting from nutrient imbalances in their systems.
